Gotthard Friedrich Stender or Old Stender, the German minister, enlightener, founder of the Latvian secular literature and linguist, was born in Laši rural municipality (currently Eglaine rural municipality) on 24 August 1714. G. F. Stender Museum in Eglaine features a display on G. F. Stender and a permanent exposition of local artisans. The vicarage granary houses an ethnographic display of household objects, photographs and documents from the 20th century.

There is a classroom of Stender’s era in Eglaine Primary School open for pupils of all ages and any tourists. In the Stender’s era classroom, visitors can experience teaching methods of 1700s. Children can sit at the desks of Stender’s era, change into historic clothes and learn Stender’s print and letters.
